Equitas Resources TSXV:EQT has appointed mining analyst and exploration veteran Raymond Goldie to its board of directors, the company announced June 24. A VP and senior mining analyst with Salman Partners, Goldie has over 20 years’ experience as a mining analyst and industry economist. He holds a B.Sc. in geology from Victoria University in New Zealand, an M.Sc. in geology from McGill, a PhD from Queens and a diploma in business administration from the University of Toronto.
Goldie wrote Inco Comes to Labrador, a book recounting Inco’s acquisition and development of one of Canada’s most substantial mineral discoveries, the Voisey’s Bay nickel deposit. He appears frequently on national television and as a keynote speaker at mining conferences.
Welcoming him to the board, Equitas president Kyler Hardy said, “His extensive knowledge of the natural resources sector and his past experience in Labrador will be a significant benefit to the company. Our management team and land package in the Voisey’s Bay area have given Equitas a strong position to execute on the opportunities ahead.”
Last month the company released “highly promising” initial results from an airborne survey over its Garland project, 30 kilometres south of Voisey’s. Once held under fragmented ownership, the 25,050-hectare property this year underwent state-of-the-art geophysics for the first time. Equitas VP of exploration Everett Makela, a Voisey’s veteran himself, noted that “the overall nature of the interpreted anomalies is in accord with our exploration model for Voisey’s Bay-style mineralization on the property being overlain by flat-lying, sheet-like intrusive bodies.”
Garland’s summer’s agenda calls for geological mapping and 50 kilometres of large loop electromagnetics, followed by up to 4,000 metres of drilling.
