August 20th, 2014, 12:09 pm PDT Canadian Rare Earth Elements Network chairperson Ian London explains his organization’s role in connecting REE experts

I’m amazed at the number of individuals working on rare earths-related process technologies or applications at different universities that nobody knows about. There’s a scientist here, or an engineer there, who’s working on a PhD and is moving forward. But there was no forum for them to get together.

August 8th, 2014, 9:27 am PDT Lakeland Resources president/CEO Jonathan Armes remarks on his company’s Saskatchewan uranium exploration

They’re compiling all the historic data and reinterpreting it in view of what we know today. It’s an interesting dynamic to see the guys, old and young, bantering about. It brings new ideas on how to approach things.

July 31st, 2014, 11:49 am PDT Arctic Star VP of exploration Buddy Doyle points to new advances that increase the odds of diamond discovery

The targets we have now are gravity-based. This is a fairly new technology that was exclusive to BHP before they sold it. It’s got better and better and better. I used it 10 years ago and didn’t like it but now it’s really good.

July 21st, 2014, 2:22 pm PDT Diamond Bourse of Canada president David Gavin comments on this country’s reputation as an ethical producer of high-quality gems

There’s a chain of custody that’s very transparent from extraction to marketplace. Not just with diamonds but in general with any product, people want to know there’s social responsibility in how these goods are procured. It’s very easy to track Canadian diamonds from mine to market.

July 3rd, 2014, 1:45 pm PDT Former federal deputy minister Nick Mulder suggests port and airport authorities offer a working model for Ring of Fire stakeholders

If you look at the airport authorities, they have representatives from various entities, not only from municipalities but from business communities, social groups, etc. If you look at the Port of Prince Rupert, they’ve got quite a few different types of people with different backgrounds…. You don’t have to get the taxpayer to fund everything.

Canada is still under-developed with respect to diamond exploration. It’s kind of like the Athabasca Basin in northern Saskatchewan. Every 10 years there’s a new exploration cycle that spurs on exploration results and discoveries.
